TRAVEL TIP THURSDAY

By The Flying Pinto

Here are some tips to help keep you safe, especially for women traveling on their own.

Always check your hotel room, prop your luggage in the doorway and make sure your room is safe. Check in the bathroom, under the bed and behind the drapes…and be aware of your surroundings. Most likely there won’t be a problem but I have never become complacent with this.

I know this isn’t environmentally correct but for safety sake, I leave my TV on in my room whenever I go out, I also leave the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door, and if someone happens to be in the hallway when I am shutting my door to leave I actually yell out, “bye honey, I’ll be back in an hour.” (corny, but I like to play it safe) This way your room seems occupied.

When I go out on my own, sightseeing especially, I carry my hotel key, debit card, and I.D. in my front pocket….I never carry a purse, or wear any jewelery except for my wedding band. Walk like you are confident and know where you are going.

There are of course many things you can do to keep yourself safe, these are three things I’ve been doing throughout my career and seem to be working for me.

Stay Safe, Travel Well!
