And that’s just the shipping! I mentioned in a previous post that colored paint on an aircraft weighs more than white paint and therefore increases the amount of fuel used, well here are a few more interesting facts. Here is a list of how much more an airline spends on fuel per year by carrying these products on board:
- 1/2 lb milk= $74,480. per year
- 1 lb of O.J.= $148,961. per year
- 2lbs of O.J.= $297,922. per year
- 3lbs of of water= $446,883. per year
- 5lbs. of ice = $744,805. per year
- 8lbs of water= $1,191,688. per year

Wow! The cost of water blows my mind!
Why waste all that money on fuel?
Everyone should bring their own…neatly of course…and quietly…and in an orderly fashion.
(Reminds me of Catholic school…Airlines as well as everything else should be run by nuns…nobody would get out of line, things would be so much calmer. Eyes in the back of their heads and they know when you’re lying!)
I’ve sat next to someone with their Tacos or Hot Pastrami…it’s not pretty and it’s stinky! and they’re usually very disorderly.
Oh oh, just a minute, forget it, if fuel costs go down, Airline prices would go down and every Tom, Dick and Hairy with no shoes on would by buying tickets and I have a hard enough time getting on standby as it is. Sitting in the middle seat of a stinky airplane isn’t fun. You better keep that orange juice coming!
FP: A long time ago I had the opportunity to visit the Boeing manufacturing facility in Seattle. The engineer who gave the tour was saying that after the aircraft was painted with the colors required by the customer, they had to fly test it again to make sure everything was still alright.
FFM: I agree! Two days ago I sat next to somebody eating pizza… what looks yummy at the food counter stinks quite badly out of its environment. With my dictator hat on, I would only allow non-stinky foods on board. To be determined by me of course 🙂 And would also prohibit chatter during the flight. The same guy talked continuously for the 2 and a half hours of the flight! No food, no talk… It also reminds me of the days of catholic school !!!
