CAPTAIN "SULLY" SULLENBERGER’S PILOT HAT TO BE AUCTIONED

By The Flying Pinto

Still looking for that special holiday gift? A well worn, autographed pilot’s hat belonging to Captain “Sully” Sullenberger is being auctioned on E-bay this week. Did I mention it is a feel good gift? The proceeds will be donated to public education.

Here is the information listed on E-bay:

This pilot’s hat belongs to Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger. He wore it for many years during his work as a professional commercial airline pilot. Now he and his wife Lorrie are donating this hat to help raise money for essential school programs at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon, CA, and Lockwood High School in Oakland, CA.
The winning bidder will a) take possession of Sully’s personal pilot’s hat and b) experience great satisfaction from having made a contribution to support public education.
This hat is autographed by Sully. It currently resides in a protective plastic box. The winner will receive the hat, the box, and a personally written note from Chesley and Lorrie Sullenberger thanking them for supporting public education.
A few answers to frequently asked questions:
Yes, all proceeds from this eBay auction will go to support school programs at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon and Lockwood High School in Oakland. Please consult your tax advisor to determine whether your winning bid is tax deductible.
No, he wasn’t wearing this hat on January 15, 2009 – he did not wear this or any other pilot’s hat on that trip.
Yes, he has another hat that he’s worn since retiring this one. He frequently wears his new hat when he pilots commercial aircraft. No, he has no plans to donate his new hat or any other parts of his uniform to anyone at this time.
Yes, we will work with you to make appropriate arrangements for delivery or pick-up.
No, we cannot promise that Capt. Sullenberger will personally deliver the hat. (But good for you for thinking of that.)
The hat is not in mint condition – it is a well-worn (but well-maintained!) hat that has seen service in cockpits and airports around the United States of America. (It probably has more frequent flier miles than you do.)
Yes, you can make a donation to DVHS or to Lockwood or your own local public school even if you don’t win this auction, and the Sullenberger family hopes you’ll consider doing so.

Good Luck! Last I looked the bid was already up to $5,500. The auction will run until Dec 14, 2009 at 8am pst.
